You can bench bleed the master cylinder, install the master cylinder, position the proportioning valve assembly bracket or the antilock brake modulator bracket onto the brake booster studs, install the master cylinder mounting nuts, remove the caps from brake pipes, connect the brake pipe fittings, connect the electrical connector and bleed the hydraulic brake system.

Q: What is the recommended type of brake fluid when adding fluid to the brake master cylinder reservoir?
A:
You can use only Delco Supreme II, GM P/N 12377967 (Canadian P/N 992667), or equivalent DOT-3 brake fluid from a clean, sealed brake fluid container.

Q: What is the removal procedure for the master cylinder?
A:
The procedure is to remove the brake master cylinder, secure the mounting flange of the brake master cylinder in a bench vise, clean the outside of the master cylinder reservoir, remove the reservoir cap and diaphragm from the reservoir, inspect the reservoir cap, remove the master cylinder reservoir, depress the primary piston and remove the piston retainer, remove the primary piston assembly, plug the cylinder inlet ports and the rear outlet port and discard the primary piston assembly, the piston retainer, and the seals and seal retainer from the secondary piston.

The procedure is to remove the master cylinder, secure the master cylinder in a vise, depress the retaining tabs on the end of the brake fluid level sensor, press the sensor through the reservoir, tap out the reservoir retaining pins, remove the reservoir and remove the seals.

You can inspect the reservoir, clean the reservoir, dry the reservoir, lubricate the new seals and outer surface area of the reservoir-to-housing barrels, install the lubricated seals, install the reservoir, tap the reservoir retaining pins into place, place the brake fluid level sensor into the reservoir, remove the master cylinder and install the master cylinder to the vehicle.

Q: How do you assemble the master cylinder?
A:
You can clean the interior and exterior of the master cylinder, the secondary piston, and the return spring, inspect the master cylinder bore, inlet and outlet ports, the secondary piston, and the return spring, and dry the master cylinder and the individual components, lubricate the master cylinder bore, the secondary piston, the return spring and all of the individual overhaul components, assemble the lubricated, new primary seal and retainer and new secondary seal onto the secondary piston, install the lubricated return spring and secondary piston assembly, install the lubricated, new primary piston assembly, depress the primary piston and install the new piston retainer, install the master cylinder reservoir, install the reservoir cap and install the master cylinder.
