FAQ for Brake Pad Set Repair

Q: What is the procedure for burnishing pads and rotors?
A:
You should select a smooth road with little or no traffic, accelerate the vehicle to 48 km/h (30 mph), and apply the brakes to bring the vehicle to a stop. Then you need to repeat the two steps until approximately 20 stops have been completed, and allow sufficient cooling periods between stops to properly burnish the brake pads and rotors.

Q: What should be noticed when the brake fluid level is midway between or higher than the maximum-full point and the minimum allowable level?
A:
If the brake fluid level is midway between the maximum-full point and the minimum allowable level, no brake fluid needs to be removed from the reservoir before proceeding. If the brake fluid level is higher than midway between the maximum-full point and the minimum allowable level, remove the brake fluid to the midway point before proceeding.

Q: What should we do to gain a firm pedal?
A:
You should apply the brake pedal to approximately 2/3 of its travel distance with the engine OFF, slowly release the brake pedal, and wait 15 seconds, then repeat the two steps until a firm pedal is obtained. This will properly seat the brake caliper pistons and brake pads.
