You need to raise the vehicle, remove the tire and wheel assembly, the brake caliper, the rear cover and the gasket, the pinion shaft locking bolt, the pinion shaft, and the shaft part way. Rotate the case until the pinion shaft touches the housing. On axles with a locking differential, use a screwdriver, or a similar tool, to enter the differential case and rotate the lock until the lock aligns with the thrust block. You also need to push the flange of the axle shaft (1) toward the differential and remove the C-lock from the button end of the axle shaft and the axle shaft from the housing.

You need to release the parking brake, raise the vehicle, remove the tire and wheel assembly, the rear steering gear assembly, the steering knuckle assembly, and the locking clip from the axle shaft end, and remove the axle shaft.

You need to raise the vehicle, remove the tire and wheel and the flange bolts, lightly tap the axle shaft with a soft-faced hammer to loosen the shaft, and grip the rib on the axle shaft flange with locking pliers. Twist the axle shaft flange to start the axle shaft removal. You also need to remove the axle shaft from the tube and the gasket and clean the axle shaft flange and the outside face of the hub assembly.

The recommended bolt torque is 156 Nm (115 ft. lbs.).
