The proper way is to install the outside door handle to the door handle rod, position the handle to the front door, install the new rivets to the outside door handle, connect the outside door handle rod-to-lock, install the water deflector, install the door trim panel and remove the tape from around the handle.

You should place tape around the handle to protect the paint, remove the front door trim panel, remove the water deflector, disconnect the outside door handle rod-to-lock, remove the center of the rivets using a center punch, drill out the rivet from the front outside door handle, remove the outside door handle from the front door and remove the outside door handle from the door handle rod.
