FAQ for Spark Plug Wire Repair

Q: How do you remove the spark plug wires from the spark plugs at the front of the engine?
A:
You can note the position of the spark plug wires before removing the wires, twist the spark plug boot 1/2 turn before removing the boot, gently pry the heat shield up from the spark plugs using the J 38491, and remove the spark plug wires from the spark plugs at the front of the engine.

Q: What's the installation procedure for the spark plug wire?
A:
The installation procedure is to position the spark plug wires to the engine, install the spark plug wire retaining clips from the rear, front and top of the engine, install the spark plug wires to the ignition coil in the proper position, install the spark plug wires to the spark plugs in the proper position at the front of the engine, install the spark plug wires to the spark plugs in the proper position at the rear of the engine, and install the fuel injector sight shield.

You should inspect for conditions including tearing, piercing, arcing, carbon tracking, and corroded terminal.

A:
If corrosion, carbon tracking, or arcing are indicated on a spark plug wire boot or terminal both the wire and the component connected to the wire should be replaced.
