The proper way is to remove all related panels and components, and any excess sealer surrounding the existing hinge, scribe the location of the hinge on the hinge pillar, center punch each of the 4 weld marks, drill through the hinge base only, at each punch location, and remove the hinge and all of the remaining weld.
