The proper way is to pull back the white plastic cover on the center connector, pull up on the center tabs of the lock button, release the shift cable end, allow the blue spring to tension/adjust the shift cable system, pull the white cover on the shift cable end back, push the natural colored lock button down, release the white cover, and verify the white cover conceals the natural colored lock.
