FAQ for Automatic Transmission Shift Shaft Seal Repair

Q: How to remove the selector shaft seal?
A:
The proper way is to remove the park/neutral position (PNP) switch, slide the seal remover tool over the selector shaft with the threaded end of the tool towards the seal, rotate the removal tool so that the threads on the end of the tool engage the steel shell of the seal, and remove the seal from the bore.

A:
The proper way is to slide a new selector shaft seal over the selector shaft with the wide face of the steel case facing outward, remove the inner sleeve so that the tool will slide over the selector shaft, and install the PNP switch.
