You need to raise the vehicle, support the lower control arm, remove the tire and wheel, the brake caliper, the nut, and the bolt that retains the wheel speed sensor harness bracket and brake hose to the upper control arm, and the upper control arm, center punch the rivets retaining the ball joint to the control arm, cut a 6.35 mm (1/4 inch) deep hole, drill away the rivet heads, punch the rivets out, remove the ball joint, install a new upper ball joint to the upper control arm, and position the 4 attaching bolts and nuts.

A:
You need to raise and support the vehicle, support the lower control arm, remove the tire and wheel, the brake caliper, the nut, and the bolt that retains the wheel speed sensor harness bracket, center punches the rivets retaining the ball joint to the control arm, drill away the rivet heads, punch the rivets out using a small punch, remove the upper ball joint cotter pin and retaining nut, separate the ball joint, remove the J 23742, pull the stud away from the knuckle, and remove the ball joint.

Q: What is the removal procedure for the lower ball joint?
A:
You need to raise the vehicle, support the vehicle, remove the tire and wheel assembly, place a floor jack under the lower control arm, remove the front brake caliper and the cotter pin and the nut, separate the ball joint from the steering knuckle, remove the lower ball joint, remove the lower ball joint, and inspect the tapered hole in the steering knuckle.

Q: What is the procedure to install a new ball joint into the lower control arm?
A:
The procedure is to press in the ball joint, make sure that the ball joint bottoms out on the lower part of the lower control arm, and remove the wooden block between the frame and upper control arm used to block the knuckle assembly out of the way.
