FAQ for Alloy Wheels Repair

Q: How to remove the tires?
A:
You need to raise and support the vehicle with safety stands, mark the tire with a crayon to note the start and the stop position, rotate each tire and wheel by hand, then inspect the tire for bulges or bent wheels, and replace as necessary, finally use tire substitution to identify the faulty tire.

Q: How to mount and dismount tires?
A:
You need to deflate the tire completely first, then use the tire changer to remove the tire from the wheel, and use a wire brush or coarse steel wool to remove any rubber, light rust, or corrosion from the wheel bead seats, apply GM P/N 12345884 or equivalent to the tire bead and the wheel rim, install the tire to the wheel, and inflate the tire to the proper air pressure. Ultimately ensure that the locating rings are visible on both sides of the tire to verify that the tire bead is fully seated on the wheel.

Q: How to repair the aluminum wheel porosity?
A:
You need to remove the tire and wheel first, next inflate the tire to the manufactures specified pressure as stated on the tire, submerge the tire/wheel into a water bath to locate the leak, indicate the leak areas, indicate the orientation of the tire to the wheel, then remove the tire from the wheel, scuff the inside of the rim surface at the leak area, clean the leak area, apply 3 mm (0.12 inch) thick layer of adhesive/sealant, GM: P/N 1052366 or equivalent, to the leak area, allow for the adhesive/sealant to dry, align the inscribed mark on the tire with the valve stem on the wheel, and install the tire to the wheel, then inflate the tire to the manufactures specified pressure as stated on the tire and ensure the leak is sealed, balance the tire and wheel, ultimately install the tire and wheel.
