FAQ for Brake Caliper Repair

Q: How to remove the brake caliper?
A:
After inspecting the fluid level in the brake master cylinder reservoir, you can raise and suitably support the vehicle. Then you need to remove the tire and wheel assembly, install and hand tighten a wheel lug nut, compress the front caliper piston, and remove the brake hose-to-caliper bolt. After plugging the opening in the front brake hose, you can remove the caliper mounting bolts, the caliper, the brake pads, the bushings, and the sleeves. Then you can inspect the caliper bolts for corrosion or damage.

After drying the brake caliper pin bolts and applying high-temperature silicone brake lubricant, you can install the bushings, the sleeves, the brake pads, the caliper assembly, and the mounting bolts. Then you can install the brake hose bolt and the brake hose-to-caliper bolt. After that, you can remove the wheel lug nut, install the tire and wheel, lower the vehicle, fill the master cylinder, and bleed the brake system.
