2001 Chevrolet Astro A/C Evaporator Core

You can install the evaporator core and the evaporator core seal. Then you can reassemble the case halves and install the auxiliary evaporator module assembly to the vehicle. After that, you can install the bolts that retain the case to the vehicle, raise and support the vehicle, install the auxiliary evaporator underbody rear tube assembly, lower the vehicle, and connect the electrical connectors. Then you need to install the air outlet duct assembly and the left body side rear trim panel. Next, you can recharge the system.

You need to recover the refrigerant, remove the left body side rear trim panel and the air outlet duct assembly, and disconnect the electrical connectors. After raising and supporting the vehicle, you can remove the retaining nut and lower the vehicle. Then you can remove the bolts that retain the case to the vehicle, the auxiliary evaporator module assembly, the screws from the case, the evaporator core seal, and the core from the case. After inspecting the gaskets and the seals for damage, you can replace the damaged gaskets and the seals.

You need to disable the AC compressor clutch operation, dry the evaporator core, and start the vehicle. Then you can locate an area in the air conditioning duct and operate the blower motor. Then you need to insert the extension tube of the deodorizer into the hole and shut the engine off. Then you need to start the engine, reconnect the AC compressor clutch coil electrical connector, and verify proper clutch operation.

The recommended torque is 6 Nm (53 lb in).
