2000 GMC Safari Parking Brake Cable

The removal procedure is to raise the vehicle and loosen the equalizer, disconnect the front cable from the connector at the left rear cable and lower the vehicle, then remove the release cable from the lever assembly, remove the cowl side panel trim, the lever assembly, the step trim plate, and the front cable.

The parking brake must be adjusted any time the park brake cables have been replaced or disconnected, or if the park brake holding ability is inadequate.

You will need to check the condition of the service brakes. The service brakes must be adjusted properly before proceeding with the park brake adjustment.

The installation procedure is to install the front cable and connect the cable to the lever assembly, then install the lever assembly, the cowl side panel, and the step trim plate, then connect the release cable to the lever assembly, raise the vehicle, connect the cable to the connector at the left rear cable and lower the vehicle, lastly check the adjustment.

You can raise the vehicle, tighten the adjuster nut on the equalizer, and periodically turn the rear wheels by hand, until the rear brake shoes begin to contact the brake drums and a rubbing noise from the brake drums should be heard when this occurs, then fully apply and release the park brake lever to the floor three times. Now you can repeat step 2, loosen the adjuster nut on the equalizer two revolutions and lower the vehicle.
