FAQ for Automatic Transmission Shifter Cable Repair

Q: What should be noticed in removing the 4L60-E Automatic Transmission?
A:
You should remove the cable retainer from the transmission mounting bracket, squeeze the cable retainer while pulling the cable towards the rear of the vehicle, disconnect the cable end from the transmission shift ball stud, position the transmission shift to PARK (P) and rotate the shift clockwise until the lever reaches the full clockwise stop position.

Q: What should be cautioned in adjusting 4L80-E Automatic Transmission?
A:
You should push the white lock button on the range and select the lever cable end out. This will free the metal core to adjust the body which is inside the cable end. You can not push the white lock button completely out and inspect the metal core adjust body on the cable end for dirt or debris. If the travel of the metal core adjust body remains restricted after the cleaning, you should replace the cable assembly.
