A:
The procedure is to remove the valve rocker arm cover(s), the rocker arm, the push rod, and the spark plug, install the J 23590 and the J 38606, compress the valve spring, remove the valve locks, the valve spring and cap, remove the valve stem oil seal and inspect the valve spring for bent, cracked or broken parts.

Q: How do you install the valve stem oil seal and valve spring?
A:
You can place the oil seal over the stem, push the valve stem oil seal over the valve guide, install the J 38606, compress the valve spring, install the valve spring and cap, install the valve rocks, release the valve spring, release the air pressure, remove the J 23590, install the spark plug, the push rod and the valve rocker arm and install the valve rocker arm cover(s).

Q: What is the removal procedure for the valve lifter?
A:
The procedure is to remove the valve rocker arm cover(s), the upper and lower intake manifold, the rocker arm bolt(s), the valve rocker arm(s), the guide plate(s), the pushrod(s), the Valve Lifter guide retainer bolts, the valve lifter guide(s) and the valve lifter(s), clean all gasket surfaces and the valve train parts and inspect the valve lifters and cam lobes for wear.
Q: What is the proper way to install the rocker arm assembly?
A:
You can blow oil out of the tapped holes in the cylinder head, lubricate the ends of the push rod(s) with new engine oil, install the push rod(s), install the valve Rocker Arm guide plate(s), install the valve rocker arm(s), apply GM P/N 12345493 thread lock or equivalent to the rocker arm pedestal retaining bolt threads, install the rocker arm pedestal retaining bolt(s), install the valve rocker arm cover(s) and inspect the valve train for noise.
Q: How do you replace the left valve rocker arm cover?
A:
You can remove the engine, the fuel injector sight shield, and the right engine mount strut bracket, disconnect the left spark plug wires, remove the left spark plug wire cover, the left valve rocker arm cover bolts, the left valve rocker arm cover and the gasket, clean the sealing surface on the cylinder head and the valve rocker arm cover and clean the valve rocker arm cover bolts of all thread locking adhesive.
