About Nissan Xterra
The Nissan Xterra was produced and sold by Nissan Motors in two generations from 1999 to 2015. Although the two generations of the Nissan Xterra are very different, both favor durability and affordability over luxury. And the body structure is based on a skid plate chassis. Both generations had a two-piece body with door C-pillar handles, an asymmetrical rear window, a tailgate that could be opened to access the boot, and a distinctive stepped roof that could accommodate a second row of seats. The stepped roof consisted of a lower front section with a removable equipment compartment and a rear upper section with a more traditional shape. The Xterra was offered in two trim levels for the first two model years: the XE and SE. The XE was offered with a 143 hp I4 engine, 5-speed manual transmission, steel wheels, and several optional packages.
SE is standard. XE is optional. All models feature removable and lockable rear seat cushions that allow the rear seatback to be folded down. The rear differential on all Nissan Xterra and Frontiers is an H233B differential, available in limited-slip or open-gear versions. The most common are 4.636:1 and 4.9:1. Early differentials had flanges. In 2003, the front seats were redesigned, and lumbar support was added. The SE models' 6-disc, 4-speaker AM/FM/CD audio system was replaced by a 300-watt, 6-speaker Rockford Fosgate AM/FM/CD audio system. It is equipped with an 8-inch subwoofer that occupies a small portion of the trunk. The last 2004 Xterrad models were produced in January 2005.

The second-generation Nissan Xterra debuted at the 2004 New York International Auto Show on Nissan's F-Alpha platform. It was larger in all dimensions than its predecessor and went on sale in early 2005. The standard engine was upgraded to Nissan's 4.0-liter VQ40DE V6 engine with 261 hp. A locking rear differential is available for off-road driving. Hands-free Bluetooth headset, steering wheel-mounted audio system, and sunroof are standard on all models except the X version. The NissanConnect system has been updated with iPhone and Android smartphone integration. Users can connect to Pandora, iHeartRadio, Facebook, and others. Features include SiriusXM, Bluetooth voice streaming, hands-free text messaging assistant, and voice recognition.
Dongfeng Motors will produce a Chinese version of the Xterra, based on the first generation Xterra from 2007 to 2015. It will be offered with 2.4L or 2.5L engines mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. When the Xterra was withdrawn from the U.S. market in 2015, Nissan began testing an SUV based on the D23 Navara. In Asia, the SUV later became the Terra. It went on sale in early 2018. And an updated version has a powerful V6 engine and good driving characteristics. It was launched in the Middle East in late 2020. The 2010 Nissan Xterra features a 4.0-liter V6 engine with 261 hp and 281 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed manual transmission is standard on all models except the SE. A five-speed automatic transmission is standard on this model and optional on all others. Rear-wheel drive is standard on all Xterra models except the off-road model, for which all-wheel drive is optional on all other trim levels. It includes a multi-speed gearbox in the lower gear range.
