About Mitsubishi Eclipse
The Mitsubishi Eclipse is a compact sports car produced by Diamond-Star Motors (abbreviated as DSM), a joint venture between Mitsubishi Motors and the Chrysler Group in the United States, from 1989 to 2012. The name "Eclipse" comes from the British racing horse "Eclipse", which won 26 times in the 18th century. The model came to a halt after the last one was produced on August 16, 2011, and was reborn in 2017 under the name Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross. It has lasted for four generations.
The project started in October 1985, and the company began to work on the development of a new compact sports car, creating the DSM. DSM is now a division of Mitsubishi Motors North America. Based on the ratio of the two parties' contributions, DSM had a strong Mitsubishi style from the beginning, so the new car was developed based on another Mitsubishi model. Thanks to this the Mitsubishi Eclipse was born and put on the market under such circumstances. Including its sister car, the Mitsubishi Eclipse became an instant hit in the North American market. It even became synonymous with modified cars because of the 2001 movie "The Fast and the Furious". From 1989 until 2011, DSM produced 906,876 Eclipse units.
