The SL500 received more refined parts and accessories after the 2006 facelift. It got a new (333.3 cu in) V8 (M273) that could produce up to 388 PS (285 kW; 383 hp) at 6000 rpm. A new bumper with three large cooling air intakes, a more pronounced V-shape, redesigned rear light all contributed to a more fashionable exterior. Interior changes such as softer leather upholstery, high-quality metal door sills, and removable luggage cover brought a more comfortable ride. As a retractable hardtop, the company also reduced the roof opening time from 20 seconds to 16 seconds. The other facelift occurred in 2008. A more eye-catching and bold front end with a pair of long power domes on the bonnet and a single bar grille was introduced.
A special edition of the Mercedes-Benz SL500 was offered to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the SL model in 2007. The production was limited to only 550 units. It came with exquisite parts and accessories, including exclusive twin-spoke rims, cognac brown leather interior, and many other features.
