The 2008 Mercedes-Benz CL65 AMG was unveiled at the 2007 New York International Auto Show. The U.S. Mercedes-Benz model arrived at Mercedes-Benz dealers in November 2010 as a 2011 model year. It is a version of the CL 600. Engine power is increased to 630 PS (463 kW; 621 hp) at 4,800 rpm and 1,000 N-m (738 lb-ft) at 2,300-4,300 rpm. The Mercedes-Benz CL65 AMG reduces fuel consumption through regenerative braking battery management of the onboard electrical system and generator. And it reduces emissions through new piston rings, improved fuel pump, and the use of premium coating on the catalytic converter. The Mercedes-Benz CL65 AMG is equipped with SPEEDSHIFT five-speed automatic transmission. It has three different drive modes. There is also an AMG sports suspension based on Active Body Control (ABC).
It is the epitome of a German luxury tourer. It's a unique beast, half luxury sled, half sport coupe. The twin-turbo V-12 engine is so torquey. It's nearly impossible to get off the ground, especially when the 20-inch Dunlop tires are cold. The CL65 AMG only takes a slight misuse of the right foot on the gas pedal to light up the rear tires. The 40th-anniversary CL65 also has a special interior that includes two-tone leather, color-coordinated Alcantara roof lining, and V12 embossed logos on the front headrests.
