The Lexus IS 250 is a compact luxury car. IS stands for "Intelligent Sport". It is sold by Lexus, a luxury division of Toyota since 1999. The sedan was originally sold under the name Toyota Altezza in Japan in 1998. The sedan was introduced as an entry-level sport model in Lexus's lineup. The Lexus IS 250 was produced as a luxury sports sedan. It was designed as the best well-performed Japanese luxury vehicle at that time. Thus, it was introduced to Japan in the beginning, and then the sedan entered the markets of North America, Australia, and Europe. The Lexus IS 250 was also available in New Zealand, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, Chile (automatic only), South Africa, and South Korea.
The first generation of the Lexus IS 250 was unveiled in Japan in October 1998. It made its debut in Europe in 1999 and in North America in 2000. The first-generation Lexus models were powered by a straight-six engine, and they are available in sedan and wagon variants. The second-generation model was launched worldwide in 2005. Refreshed versions were released thereafter.
