In 1976, AMC introduced the CJ7, the seventh generation of the original car and the first major change to the Jeep brand in 20 years. The car had a slightly longer wheelbase than the previous version to accommodate an automatic transmission. It had square doors. The wheelbase of the Jeep CJ7 was 10 inches longer than the previous model, and the rounded side doors were partially squared off to accommodate the hinged doors. Another notable difference between the CJ5 and CJ7 was the chassis, which consisted of two parallel brackets with a longitudinal recess. A car is only as good as its parts.
