About Hyundai Elantra
The Hyundai Elantra was originally sold as Lantra in Australia and some European markets. It was related to the Mitsubishi Magna Elante model of the same name in Australia. The Elantra was launched in October 1990, updated in 1993, and sold in Europe from spring 1991. It replaced the slightly larger Stellar. It was not available in many markets. The Hyundai Elantra competed with models such as the Ford Sierra and Opel Cavalier, but at a much lower price. From 1995 to 1998, the first-generation Hyundai Elantra was manufactured and sold at the Bimantara plant in Nenggala, Indonesia. It was only available with a 1.6-liter engine.
In Europe, the 1996-1997 sedans had silver Mercury alloy wheels. The station wagon did not have a radiator grille. The Alpha SOHC four-cylinder engine and the Beta DOHC I4 gasoline engine were available when sales began. A new version with a 2.0-liter engine was also available. The GLS is the successor to the GL in Australia, with a 2.0-liter engine, suede upholstery, softer cloth seats, and steering wheels. The GLS features a rear license plate bracket and tinted rearview mirrors. All models have been updated for 2004. These include new headlights and taillights, a new radiator grille, and an updated instrument panel. The GLS version is standard equipment on the Elantra. The higher-level GT model has a stiffer suspension and a blue-illuminated instrument panel. For the 2006 model year, the GT version has been replaced by the Limited version. It featured new colors, a vertical chrome grille, leather upholstery, leather steering wheel.

Beijing Hyundai produced the Elantra XD in China from December 23, 2003, until 2011. Since 2005, the car has been used as a cab in Beijing. In 2006, they replaced the popular Tianjin Xiali red cabs to reduce pollution. From 2007, the Hyundai Elantra was available as a five-door liftback and from 2003 to 2010 as a sedan. In the 2004 model year, the XD became available under a new name. In 2007, the car received a facelift with new headlamps, radiator, rear bumper fog lamps, and new wheels. Production continued until 2010. The redesigned sedan was unveiled at the 2006 New York Auto Show. The HD is still sold in the South Korean domestic market under the Hyundai Avante name. Powertrain options include the 1.6-liter Gamma and 2.0-liter Beta II gasoline engines and a 1.6-liter turbodiesel engine. A five-speed manual transmission is standard, while a four-speed automatic transmission is available as an option.
In North America, only the 2.0L engine is available. Unlike the 2006 XD series, the 2007 Hyundai Elantra GLS does not have standard air conditioning but does have side airbags. In 2008, the Limited version was discontinued, and only GLS and SE versions are now available. The SE trim has features not found on the GLS version, such as a telescoping steering wheel, electronic stability control, optional sunroof, and leather upholstery. Consumer Reports tests show that the SE version's handling and braking performance are significantly better than those of the base GLS model. iPod and USB connectivity are standard on 2009 SE models. The gear indicator has been moved to the onboard computer. And the coolant temperature gauge has been removed.
