About Honda Pilot
The Honda Pilot is a full-size crossover SUV manufactured by Honda and launched in 2002. The Honda Pilot shares a platform with the Acura MDX and the Odyssey minivan in the North American market. The Pilot's body structure and independent suspension provide car-like handling, while built-in chassis rails allow for easy towing and off-road use. The 2003-2004 Honda Pilot features a J35A4 SOHC V6 aluminum engine. The 2005 Pilot has the new J35A6 engine. Other changes include a transmission with redesigned 4th and 5th gears for easier shifting and a new fuel tank design. Since 2006, the Honda Pilot has been equipped with the J35Z1 or J35A9 engines.
All Pilots of this generation are equipped with a 5-speed automatic transmission. The Honda Pilot has transverse balanced axles in the front and a multi-element axle with coil springs in the rear to ensure a level load area. The wheelbase is 66.3 inches in front and 66.5 inches in the rear. It is equipped with torque-vectoring AWD to transfer most of the power to the front wheels under normal driving conditions. When front-wheel slip is detected, 50 percent of the power can be transferred to the rear wheels. The system also features a VTM-4 lock button on the instrument panel that locks the rear axle differential and transfers 25% of the power to each rear wheel. Other equipment items include disc brakes with ABS, rack-and-pinion steering, four-wheel independent suspension, and 282-degree visibility.

In October 2005, Honda introduced changes to the 2006 Honda Pilot. Exterior changes included a new front end with a different grille, halogen headlights, and clear glass taillights. The wheels were changed on the EX model, while the original EX wheels were already available on the LX model. In the cabin, side airbags were installed in the C-pillar, the dashboard was redesigned, the center console received a chrome finish, and the storage compartments and cupholders were upgraded. Both models had a five-speed automatic transmission. The wheelbase of the second generation was 109.2 inches, and the internal displacement was 153.7 cc. Upgraded headlamps replaced the previous generation's standard halogen headlamps. Other equipment features include a new dual memory function for the driver's seat, a new power tailgate, and the shift lever was moved from the steering column to the center console between the front seats. The Touring version has a 120-volt power outlet and Honda's satellite navigation system.
The 2013 model comes standard with a rearview camera, Bluetooth hands-free connectivity, and tri-zone automatic climate control. The third-generation 2016 Pilot debuted at the Chicago Auto Show in February 2015, and production began in May. It went on sale in June. New optional safety systems include a LaneWatch camera in the front passenger mirror and blind-spot and cross-traffic alert systems. Other options include a rear collision warning system with brake assist. An upgraded 3.5-liter V6 engine with direct injection and the start-stop system delivers 280 hp. A six-speed automatic transmission is standard on LX, EX, and EX-L models. Touring and Elite models come standard with a nine-speed ZF automatic transmission. On all-wheel-drive models, torque transmitted to the rear wheels varies.
