About Ford Taurus
The Ford Taurus was produced in the United States from 1986 to 2019. The Ford Taurus was introduced in late 1985 for the 1986 model year. There was a brief hiatus between 2006 and 2007. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Ford Taurus sales declined as the Japanese midsize sedan lost market share. The company redirected its resources toward SUV development. Taurus production ceased after the 2007 model year and ended on October 27, 2006. As part of the redesign, the Ford Taurus and the larger Crown Victoria were replaced by larger sedans. The 2007 Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable models were reintroduced at the Chicago Auto Show. The second generation includes a gasoline version, an EcoBoost option, a new-generation hybrid model, and a fuel-injected hybrid version. The Ford Fusion is the first production sedan to offer all four options. Sales of the gasoline and hybrid versions began in the U.S. in October 2012 for the 2013 model year. Sales in Europe and Asia began in 2015 under the Ford Mondeo name. Deliveries of the Taurus have begun in the United States.
The Ford Taurus is available in S, SE, and SEL versions. The base engine is Mazda's 160 hp Duratec I4 mated to a 5-speed manual or automatic transmission. SE and SEL models are also available with a 221 hp Duratec V6 engine and 6-speed automatic transmission. It is manufactured by Aisin in Japan. Ford's first advertising campaign for Fusion in the United States was called "Life in Drive." In January 2007, the company launched a new Fusion campaign, Fusion Challenge. In the U.S., the model won a Consumer Reports comparison test comparing Japanese sedans on styling, reliability, handling, and driving pleasure. An additional front passenger portable audio jack has been added, and some equipment changes have been made. A DVD navigation system is available.

The engines are identical in Europe and other international markets. But the 2.5 engine is only available in North America. The new 2013 model lineup includes the next-generation Ford Taurus in hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions. The Ford Taurus is the first production car to offer all three.
