About Ford Fusion
Between 2006 and 2020, both generations of the Ford Fusion will be available in gasoline, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid versions. The Ford Fusion was produced at Ford's assembly plant in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico, along with a redesigned version of the Lincoln MKZ and an earlier Mercury Milan that shared the CD3 platform. The second generation includes a gasoline version, an EcoBoost version, a next-generation hybrid model, and a plug-in hybrid model, the Ford Fusion Energi. The Ford Fusion is the first series-production sedan available with all four options. Sales of the gasoline and hybrid variants began in the United States in October 2012 for the 2013 model year. Sales in Europe and Asia under the Ford Mondeo nameplate began in 2015, as did sales in South Africa under the Ford Fusion nameplate.
The Fusion was available in S, SE, and SEL versions. The base engine was a four-cylinder Duratec I4 developed by Mazda with 160 hp. Some interior elements, such as the console and seats, were shared with the Ford Mondeo Mk III. The Fusion benefited greatly from this and offered similar handling and reliability to the Mazda. The V6 engine is the only significant part of the Fusion's powertrain or chassis that Ford developed in-house. The company's first advertising campaign for Fusion in the United States was Life in Drive. In Canada, the Reaction program was launched. Motor Trend magazine reported in July 2007 that a group of Ford vehicle specialists planned to launch the Ford Fusion GT in late 2009 or early 2010. The 3.5-liter Eco Boost V-6 3.5-liter engine is expected to produce approximately 340 hp. The Ford Fusion comes standard with front-seat side airbags, curtain airbags, and an alarm system. They were previously offered as expensive options.

ABS and tire pressure monitoring are standard on 2008 models. New features include rear parking assist, SYNC multimedia, a communications system, and interior lighting. A new generation of voice-activated controls has replaced DVD navigation, and, for the first time, navigation is offered with manual transmission. Some colors have been removed, and others have been added. Two new packages have been added to the options list for 2008. The Sport Appearance Package includes interior and exterior enhancements such as 18-inch alloy wheels, a rear spoiler, and stiffer suspension. The Moon and Tune package include a power sunroof and an Audiophile premium audio system with eight speakers and an amplifier.
For the 2010 model year, the company significantly redesigned the Fusion, Mercury Milan and Lincoln MKZ, changing the front and rear styling, interior, and transmissions. Engines are similar to the 2009 Escapee, including new PIP Duratec I4 and V6 engines mated to its new six-speed automatic transmission. The SE was a mid-range model with 17-inch steel wheels, six speakers, and a power-adjustable driver's seat. SIRIUS satellite radio was also standard on this model. On May 28, 2010, the NHTSA announced that installing different types of manufacturer's floor mats over the original floor mats could cause the accelerator pedal to lock. In many vehicles, loose floor mats can interfere with the accelerator or brake pedal, depending on the vehicle design and type of floor mats.
