About Ford F-250 HD
In 1996, a new F-250 HD was introduced that differed significantly from the standard F-250 with a cooled gearbox, heavier rear axle, and heavier springs and shocks. The overall weight increased by 500 pounds over the standard 3/4-ton model, but it was still lighter than the F-350. It was available in standard/long, extended/long, and double/long-wheelbase versions. The latter two combinations were rare and were only produced for just over a year before being discontinued in the fall of 1997.
The F-250 HD and weightier trucks were the forerunners of the real truck model. It is exactly the same as the 1996 version. But the Ford F-250 name is associated with two different trucks: the old and the new. It still uses the old 9th generation F-series chassis. The models still have the same engines and transmissions as in 1996. In 1998, only the Ford F-250 HD still had the old chassis. This 3/4-ton pickup could haul heavier loads than its Jetta counterpart, mainly due to the 10.5-inch Sterling axle and variable rear suspension.

The 1999 F-250 HD is powered by either the 235hp 5.4-liter Triton V8 or the 275 hp 6.8-liter Triton V10, both newly developed units that complement the existing 7.3-liter Power Stroke diesel engine. On the other hand, the diesel engine parts have also been upgraded, making an impressive 235 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque to pull the trailer. All three powertrain parts are more strong, have more torque, and consume less fuel than their predecessors.
The new Ford F-250 HD parts are completely redesigned. Several major improvements have been made to the vehicle. This generation's chassis has been significantly strengthened with a new type of coating that provides increased corrosion resistance. Like other original Ford F-250 HD parts, the rear suspension has also been redesigned to improve ride and handling characteristics without sacrificing performance. The 6.4-liter PowerStroke diesel engine has been upgraded to 350 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque. Other Ford F-250 HD parts include upgraded interior materials, standard MP3 audio connectivity, power-folding, retractable mirrors, and a unique folding tailgate step.
