About Chrysler PT Cruiser
The Chrysler PT Cruiser is a 4-door hatchback and 2-door convertible manufactured by Chrysler and sold worldwide. When production ended in July 2010, 1.35 million vehicles had been produced worldwide. It is a five-seat, front-wheel-drive vehicle that NHTSA classifies as a truck for fuel economy calculations under the U.S. CAFE standard but as a passenger car for most other measurements. Chrysler developed the Chrysler PT Cruiser to meet NHTSA's requirements for light trucks and to bring the average fuel economy of the company's truck fleet into compliance with CAFE standards. In 2002, the PT Cruiser was also assembled for the global market at Eurostar's plant in Graz, Austria, under the production code PG. European Chrysler PT Cruiser manufactured in 2001 or after 2003 was assembled in Mexico under the PT PG production code. The U.S. version features a 2.4L four-cylinder gasoline engine as standard. In addition to this standard model, a 2.2L four-cylinder Mercedes-Benz diesel engine is available in Europe, Asia, and South Africa.
The PT Cruiser was used by Maihama Resort Cab in Urayasu, Chiba Prefecture, between 2002 and 2007. Because of its fun retro look, it was used as a cab at Tokyo Disneyland. PT Cruiser fares were added to Maihama Resort Line flights to Tokyo Disneyland. Unfortunately, the PT Cruiser was not designed to withstand the rigors of the cab industry. It was expensive to maintain, and the fleet was scrapped in 2007. It was offered in Japan until April 2010. It was replaced by the Dodge Calibra. The launch of the Chrysler PT Cruiser was described as market segmentation. Chrysler CEO Dieter Zetsche said it was another example of the company's innovation in new segments. It shows that it is possible to offer attractive design, functionality, and value for money in one package.

In 2006, it was redesigned with lowered headlamps, a modified radiator grille that no longer extended below the bumper, a new lower hood from which the patented brake cooling ducts were removed, modified taillamps, and proposed round fog lamps. In 2010, the last year of production of the PT Cruiser, only one trim level was offered. It carried a 2.4L, 150 hp I4 engine. Standard equipment included a four-speed automatic transmission, manual transmission, AM/FM radio with CD player, 3.5 mm AUX jack, and six speakers. The GT is a high-performance version of the turbocharged Chrysler PT Cruiser hatchback that was launched in 2003. The engine has been improved over the standard PT. It includes stronger crankshaft rings, thicker tires, and 11 mm main bolts.
The 2006 Route 66 is available in yellow or black. This version featured yellow brake calipers, colored grille, colored roof, raised spoiler, 17-inch all-season tires, four-wheel disc brakes, stability control, cruise control, and sport suspension. Also eye-catching are chrome side skirts, chrome exhaust tailpipes, and 17-inch Empire five-spoke alloy wheels. Special exterior details include a tan "Street Cruiser" badge on the trunk lid and a "Route 66" emblem on the front wheels. A total of 1443 Route 66s were built in North America, 142 of which were equipped with a five-speed manual transmission.
