About BMW ActiveHybrid 5
The BMW ActiveHybrid 5 was a hybrid version model of the 5 Series that was manufactured and marketed by BMW. When the ActiveHybrid 5 was developed and ready for marketing, the 5 Series was in its sixth generation. The concept of the model was first introduced at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. It was not until two years later, in 2012, that it was officially ready and debuted on the market. The hybrid vehicle was discontinued in 2016.
The BMW ActiveHybrid 5 got the same engine for the powertrain parts as the 535i sedan model from the series. Based on the turbocharged 3.0L inline 6-cylinder engine that the hybrid shared with the nonhybrid sedan, it was given an extra synchronous electric motor. The electric motor was installed into the housing of the automatic gearbox and could provide 40 kWh and 150 lb-ft of torque with the engine parts. The battery was made of lithium and could hold power up to 1.35 kWh. To make the battery more efficient, an independent cooling system for its own was also integrated into the battery.

The BMW ActiveHybrid 5 traded its interior space for the possession of the battery, diminishing the luggage capacity from 520 liters to 375 liters. A start-stop system and a coasting mode were installed in the hybrid vehicle as standard parts for safer and more convenient driving. When it was put on the electric-only mode, it could reach a maximum speed of 60 km/h and a distance of 4 km. With the help of the fuel-saving technologies which the company has given it, the automobile was able to cut fuel consumption and emissions by more than 10 percent of the total amount.
