About BMW 840Ci

The BMW 840Ci is a grand tourer that belongs to the first generation of the BMW 8 Series produced and marketed by the German automaker BMW starting in the 1994 model year, also called E31. Its development began in July 1981 and was later completed in 1986. The series debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 1989. Since it replaced the former models, it was usually regarded as a successor, but the BMW 840Ci was actually an entirely new model with a more reasonable price and better performance. As the flagship model of the BMW brand, it has an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph). The production of the BMW 840Ci was discontinued in the United States in 1997 and later in other markets in 1999.
BMW 840Ci had two types of powertrains. From mid-1993 to late 1995, it was powered by a 286hp 4000cc M60B40 engine. From mid-1995 it was replaced with a new 4400cc M62B44 engine with improved fuel efficiency and torque, but no change in horsepower. The model was fitted with a 5-speed manual transmission, and 6-speed manual transmission was also available in the European market. Except for that, a V12 version was also offered for higher trims. Visually, the only difference is the round exhaust tailpipe on the V8 and the square exhaust tailpipe on the V12.
