About BMW 524td
The BMW E28 is the second generation of the BMW 5 Series. It was produced from 1981 to 1988 and replaced the E12 5 Series. Pre-series production began in April 1981 and the car was introduced that year. At first, the E28 was produced with straight-four and straight-six petrol engines until 1983. At that time, the 524td became the first BMW car to be powered by a diesel engine. It was also the first 5 Series with the center console and to be available with anti-lock brakes.
The brakes of BMW 524td use a hydraulic dual-circuit brake system with power assistance. The front wheels have disc brakes. All cars with 2.5 l or more displacement have rear disc brakes, while the lesser-powered models have rear drum brakes. To prevent the wheels from locking, BMW was equipped with an anti-lock braking system.

Four years after the introduction of the more powerful 524td, the naturally-aspirated 524d was introduced at the 1986 Geneva Motor Show. The 524td was the first diesel car produced by BMW. It entered production in late 1982. Factory performance figures for the manual transmission cars are a top speed of 180 km/h and 0–100 km/h acceleration in 12.9 seconds. The BMW 524td is a rear-wheel-drive vehicle with a 4-door saloon body. The 524td forms an important part of BMW's E28 series. Its power is produced by a 2.4-liter capacity. This unit features a single overhead camshaft valve gear, a 6cylinder layout, and 2 valves per cylinder. It has an output of 113 bhp of power at 4800 rpm, and maximum torque of 210 N·m at 2400 pm. The power is transferred through a 5-speed manual transmission. The maximum speed claimed is 180 km/h or 112 mph.
Throughout the E28, the following cars were added: the 524d and 524td using diesel engines, the 518i, and the 525e/528e as fuel-economy cars, and the upper-specification 533i, 535i, M535i, and M5. The E28 was the first 5 Series produced with diesel, like the 524d and 524td.
