About Audi 5000
The Audi 5000 was the name for the Audi 100 in North American markets from 1978 to 1983. It was able to stick with the series for the second and third generations before being discontinued. The Audi 5000's engine parts were only available for 5-cylinder ones. In 1978 and 1979, the model had exterior accessories such as the twin round headlamps. These parts were later replaced by rectangular units.
The diesel engines were originally not available for their powertrain system in California because they failed to meet the US strict emissions standards. The transmission that paired up the engine parts was also only available with a 5-speed manual one. It was until 1983 that the Audi 5000 was finally able to have an uplift for its powertrain performance and driving quality. The introduction of a 2.0L turbo diesel to the American markets save the Audi 5000 from its handicap.

The Audi 5000 Turbo was released to the US market in 1980. Because of the restriction of the emission standards, it was only given engine parts that could only provide 130 horsepower. It was also given lower boost pressure to able the vehicle to run on the lower octane unleaded fuel available in America. New standard pieces and accessories were also added to the list for production. The added equipment pieces and accessories included a set of bigger aluminum wheels, a harder and sportier suspension, and other upgrade performance pieces.
In 1982, the Audi 5000 entered the third-generation world of the Audi 100 series. All models were all given an aerodynamic style for both exterior and interior parts, and new accessories were offered in order to match the new look. The pin-mounted flush windows became the new styling feature.
