About Audi 100 Quattro
The Audi 100 was a series of luxury cars introduced in 1968. It was also known as the 200 (higher trim level), and the 5000 (U.S. Market). It was built in four generations: C1 (1968-1976), C2 (1977-1982), C3 (1983-1990), and C4 (1991-1994). The most notable 100 variant was the original Audi S4 (C4). The 100 would later evolve into the Audi A6. The Audi 100 Quattro is a Mid-Size Luxury/Executive Car produced by the German automaker, Audi from 1968 to 1994. The Audi 100 featured a Front Engine, Front Wheel Drive layout until the release of the 100 Quattro in 1982 which featured Audi's All Wheel Drive configuration. The 100 Quattro was available as a four-door sedan or five-door wagon.
The 100 Quattro had the option available for the C4 chassis from 1991 to 1994. The popular US version of the 100 Quattro is based on the 4-door C-1 platform of Audi's 'big' coupe, beginning in 1968. The 100 Quattro came with a ZF four-speed automatic gearbox. This all-wheel-drive system was already proven on the 1988 Audi 200 turbo Quattro that took 8 out of 13 wins in the Trans-Am Series. The SCCA changed the regulation to two-wheel drive only and made it a regulation to run North American-made engines. A prototype of the 100 C1 with an all-wheel-drive was made in 1976; this was not the same system that appeared many years later. The 100 C4 generation was available in front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive platforms with assembly out of Neckarsulm, Germany. The body styles included a 4-door sedan option along with a 5-door wagon option. Audi used to type numbers to further distinguish each platform, Type 4A was put in place for the C4 chassis.
